Once again I am off putting my life on the line for my country, OK, so I am really just consulting for my country but it involves traveling by air and visiting US government installations! My favourite pet security peeve is taking my shoes of to go into the US by air! I don't have to take my shoes off for Canadian air travel so does that me we are at greater risk in Canada! Anyway, I took the 6 am flight and I could not believe how many people were in the airport. One guy told me that he had arrived at 0430 am to ensure that he respected the timings for international travel and the Ottawa Airport was still CLOSED! Apparently it doesn't open untin 4:45 am!!!! I finally got through security to end up waiting even longer in the Tim Horton's line up! And no, I did not have to take my shoes off to get a coffee! Now, if it will make anyone feel better, the security to get into the US Gov Installation we visited was even worse than airport security - vehicle search included at no extra charge!
Well I assumed that everyone payed the same attention to "electronic detail" that I do and I now know that that is not necessarily the case. If you haven't seen the "Roth Easter Video Message" then go to my web page and have a look (
Carl's Web Site). Anyway, I was playing around with the "EyeSight" camera on my iMac and I noticed that the "PhotoBooth" application had a built in "green screen" effect whereby you could super impose the video you recorded over a digital image. Well it was Easter weekend and I wanted to do something topical, so I decided to record an Easter message in front of our snowed in house as I intended to send the video to some friends who lived in much warmer climates. I happened to have my parrot Buddy on my arm so he also found his way into the cast. So what makes this even a mildly amusing story, well it turns out that Apple did such a good job with their digital effect that several (not one, or even two but at least THREE people) actually thought I filmed the message outside in front of our house! Well, I thought it was kind of funny.
Welcome to Carl's Blog! For those of you familiar with my web site at www.carlroth.net you will know that it has no commentary so I decided to write a blog. Now you can enjoy my opinion on the world around ME on a regular basis!
I also have a Photography Podcast that you can subscribe to with iTunes using the link on my web site. For those who didn't know, I took the banner photo in Venice in the summer of 2007 and it was a semi-finalist in the Ottawa Henry's Photo Contest last year.
Lasty, for those of you who find my opinions and observations interesting or otherwise, feel free to leave a comment.
